EFI and BIOS - Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries.

I found another one of those 'switcher blogs' and I thought it might make an interesting read for both Mac newbies and power users. I honestly can't find any information on the author, but My Journey to Macintosh provides up some interesting switcher experiences, such as loading up Firefox just because that's what the author used on Windows, then discovering that other browsers like Camino offer a far more Mac OS X-like experience, in part because Camino isn't butt-ugly and it uses the Keychain.

One thing I like about this blog is that the author seems to be a power user, of sorts; while some posts are about discovering the wonders of working with PDFs on a Mac without the need  for Adobe's (fat, bloated, clunky, slow and horrible) Reader, another post laments some hangups in getting PHP and MySQL working. In other words: there's something for everyone!

There isn't a virtual library of posts yet, but I thought it might be an interesting switcher blog to watch because of both the variety of topics the author has touched on so far, and an About section that reads: "Microsoft Windows user since Windows 3.0 moves to a Mac and Mac OS/X Tiger. Watch the process, good and bad :)." See? Fair and balanced, too. Enjoy.

is a GPL'd multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 ripper/converter. HandBrake was originally available on the BeOS, but now has been ported over to MacOS X and to GNU/Linux. A Windows port is being worked on.

Ao verem que culpabilizar Lisboa não estava a 'colar', a pessoa-que-está-atrás-do-balcão da "loja ponto já" de braga teve um rasgo de genialidade para um novo 'descalça a bota':

"Os computadores são só para a internet"

É, então, por isso que não actualizam o navegador de internet [Safari] nem fazem as actualizações de segurança [?]



Ou será que é a, muito mais simples atitude do não-funcional público: evitar aprender o que quer que seja que aprender só traz mais trabalho??? [é que é muito difícil chegar a este quadro aqui de cima, e aprender a trabalhar com ele também]

Chamam-se os senhores do GuinnessBook para registar o feito destes portugueses:

Quando querem editar um texto dizem-lhes que não dá. As máquinas têm dois [2] editores de texto instalados.
Querem abrir um PDF e dizem-lhes que não dá. Basta um [surpresa] duplo-clic.
Já ouvi alguns a dizer que "os Mac não prestam" que nem dão para abrir mais janelas no navegador de internet. Porque não sabem que [igual no windows] se pode abrir uma nova janela no menu "file". [nem falo do conceito de nova "aba", presente em todos os navegadores que não o microsoft internet explorer =<6]
Já ouvi, até, chamarem-lhe "windows-linux" que "também são windows mas são linux". Aqui quase acertam. Que tem janelas e são UNIX.

Mas a 'função' destes não-funcionais é alapar-o-cú-na-cadeira.
